No debt is worth that

Believe it or not, some people become so upset about their debt they end their lives. Being in debt can bring emotional turmoil to a personal relationship, ruin your self-esteem and leave you feeling like a failure, but it's not worth ending your life. It's possible to find positive ways to turn your financial situation around.

Get out of debt without embarrassment

Many agencies offer confidential help to people who are in debt. Being in debt is nothing to feel ashamed about. Millions of people in the United States are in debt so you are not alone. The only ones who should be ashamed are the credit card companies who charge a ridiculously high interest rate and trick consumers with all of the fine print. One way to get started is by visiting the public library. You can check out books about budgeting and debt management so you can learn about it in the privacy of your home. Also, surf the Internet to learn about debt solutions.

Think about needs and wants

To get out of debt, you don't need to give up the things you enjoy. But you do need to do some serious thinking about your needs and wants and the difference. Maybe you did not get into debt by eating out or buying expensive jewelry. Maybe you got into debt by helping a relative or because you had to fix your car. But one thing is for sure: You lived beyond your means. It does not have to be painful to live within your means. It can be fun to face the challenge. You will feel more real and at peace with your life circumstances. And, if you want to enjoy a better life, you will be motivated to make the necessary changes. Think about the difference between what you need and what you want. You want a new dress but you need gasoline to get to work every day. Then again, maybe you can get a ride or carpool with a co-worker. Always think outside the box when you are in debt.

Don't borrow money from friends

In order to keep the peace with friends and family, don't get yourself into another kind of debt. Don't borrow money from family or friends unless you want to be broke and without friends in the future. It's always painful to owe money to loved ones and not be able to pay them back quick enough. Instead, get help from a professional by seeing a bank loan officer or a credit-counseling agency.
